Previous works
Puffing Billy Railway Risk Assessments
Arbortecture has undertaken annual risk assessments along the Puffing Billy railway since 2017. This is one of our most enjoyable jobs of the year. The assessments are undertaken along a 26 kilometre railway winding through the picturesque Dandenong Ranges. The vegetation along the line changes significantly and sometimes abruptly as the track passes over deep gullies surrounded by towering Mountain Ash and magnificent Manna Gum before the forest opens up to bushland species, fields of wild flowers and back to temperate Rainforest. The assessments are undertaken in varying seasons in order to identify and monitor seasonal changes including fungal bodies, pests/disease, wind/flood damage and any associated impacts and defects. The implementation of risk assessments has not only significantly reduced the number of failures along the line but has allowed management to identify areas of landslip, fungal infestations, erosion, wind and flood damage. The works are a great benefit to Puffing Billy management, tourists and locals.
Leith Park, St Helena.
Arbortecture was appointed by OCAV, the Old Colonists Association of Victoria as Project Arborist to oversee the protection of trees associated with the multi-million dollar redevelopment of Leith Park. The project required the demolition of multiple existing units and the construction of several multi-story apartment complexes. The project was a staged development beginning in late 2017 with completion of Stage 1 finalised in September 2019 and practical completion of Stage 2 awarded in late 2021.
The project was a long and challenging endeavour complicated by the number of mature indigenous trees, sensitive design requirements and the proximity of works to vegetation. The project was a success, receiving awards for its architectural design and recognition for its environmental sensitivity.
