Tree Reports

Planning

Before committing to a property, it’s smart to understand the role trees might play in its future use. We assess sites for tree-related constraints and opportunities prior to purchase. This service is billed by the hour—smaller sites with fewer than 10 trees typically take 1–2 hours. You’ll receive a concise report and a simple “mud map” identifying key trees on or near the site, along with any relevant overlays or planning controls that could influence your project.

Preliminary assessments

A preliminary arboricultural report is used to survey trees on a site or parcel of land, particularly during the early stages of development planning. It provides valuable information to guide design, including opportunities to retain existing trees, and helps identify potential tree-related restrictions.

These in-depth assessments cover the species, origin, size, health, and structure of each tree. We help identify which trees are worth retaining during redevelopment and outline any planning regulations that may apply. We also define Tree Protection Zones (TPZs) in line with AS4970, giving design teams clear parameters to work within.

Impact assessment

When developments are proposed, understanding how trees will be affected is crucial. We evaluate potential impacts—such as encroachments into Tree Protection Zones (TPZs)—and offer practical advice for retaining significant trees. Our reports include clear, standards-compliant protection measures (in line with AS4970) to help ensure trees survive and thrive throughout development.

Risk management

We specialise in large-scale tree risk assessments using the Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) method. With GIS mapping tools, we accurately plot and colour-code trees based on their risk level. We then create tailored management plans that prioritise the most urgent work first, helping clients stay within budget while improving safety and long-term tree health.

Tree Management Plans

Tree Management Plans, (sometimes known as TMP’s) are formulated to provide guidelines for tree protection during all phases of development.  TMP’s comply with AS4970 in conjunction with compliance requirements of the relevant municipality. TMP’s  are concise and should be accessible to all workers on site for the duration of the project. Every site is unique and provides its own challenges; our consultants can help identify foreseen issues and provide a plan that helps direct development in avoiding impacts to trees.

Tree root investigations

Although Arbortecture doesn’t carry out root investigations directly, we can connect you with trusted professionals who do. We offer onsite supervision to monitor and direct root investigations including any excavation or construction near sensitive root zones. Once the work is complete, we interpret the findings and provide a clear, informed report outlining any implications for nearby trees.

Tree valuation

Trees contribute environmental, aesthetic, and financial value to a property. Using industry-recognised methods, we can assess and assign a dollar value to individual trees or groups of trees. This can assist in compensation claims, insurance, or establishing bonds for development approval. Depending on your needs, we evaluate both the tangible and intangible benefits trees provide—such as shade, carbon capture, and amenity.
